How to open a stuck rear door?

One of the rear doors on my '97 A6QW is stuck. When you lift the outside handle, it behaves as though the door is locked. When you pull the inside handle, it's very tight, and you can only pull it out partway. Obviously there's no way to take the door panel off, since several of the screws are hidden when it's closed.
This happened a few years ago, and I was able to fix it (not well enough, obviously), but I can't remember what I did.
Does anyone have any ideas, or had this happen?

I believe that the latch is magnetically controlled. If I remember correctly the dealer should have a way of magically opening the door, may be worthwhile to have them fix it properly. Give them a call and see what they have to say, or see if anyone else posts a way to get it open. Either way, good luck with it.

What ended up being a misrouted and busted latch cable, caused the same problems your describing. But, if I continued to pull up on the locking stem while pushing the power lock button, I could get the door to pop open. (Without even touching the door handle) The only way I could get the door to latch again, was to push the locking stem down and slam the door. Hope this helps...
