I received my vag-com cable (serial) and 2x2 adapter yesterday, which I orderd from www.alpha-bid.com.
Hooked it up to the twp two-pin connectors in my car ('95 A6 12v) and the serial port on my laptop, switched on the ignition, fired up VAG-COM 409.1. Went to options, chose COM1, clicked "test", and disappointingly got the message "Port status: OK Interface: Not found!
I realise that this is not unusual, and there is a lot of discussion about this on the net. Apparently the "genuine" cables from ross-tech work better, but now I don't want to spend a nunch of money if I'm not sure that there is a probem with the car itsself.
Amy suggestions out there? Has anyone else had he same problem?

I have also tried VAG-COM Ver 311.2 with the same results. Does anyone know where I can lay my hands on the old vwtool software? I did manage to find a Hungarian version of it but my Hungarian is a little rusty ;-)

When I had my 93 I noticed that the wires for the 2x2 connector on the car were reversed.. maybe its the same for the 95.. check the pinouts on the OBD tool and make sure they go to the right wire on the car..

search for VWTOOL in this very forum. One of our members has been kind enough to host a downloadable zip file of the software.

you run it it extracts the files listed below. However, when I run setup.exe it gives an error message about not being able to copy the file because the destination file is write protected. Go figure!?
