I have done some searching and not really found what I am looking
for. If the transmission is in limp mode, all numbers and letters light up? Will Ross-Tech VAG-COM help me in any way? 1992 100CS.

yes and yes
if they are all lit up, you are in limp mode.... a vag will tell you what the problem code is, and after you clear it, you will be out of limp mode. just make sure if you buy a vag setup, you have a cable that will work with your car.
