I wonder why the manual trans front axles have two CV joints but the auto axles have one CV and..

Default I wonder why the manual trans front axles have two CV joints but the auto axles have one CV and..

one tripod joint.

It is a lot less messy when installing the trans without the half disassembled CV with grease everywhere getting in the way.

Default Both auto and manual trans front axles have inner & outer CV joints....

The auto version is just a different CV joint design than the manual version.

Default Interesting question. Are manual and auto transmissions made by different manufacturers?

If so, that may account for the difference.

Default Plausible... the A6 auto is made by ZF, S car manuals are Getrag.

I assume the manual box on the non-S cars is a (different) Getrag also though I've never actually seen one.
