idle stabilizer valve

idle stabilizer valve
I have a 95 A6 and when I put it in park the vehicle shuts off. The service manager at the local dealership said it was the idle stabilizer valve and that it cannot be cleaned. He said I need to replace it at $300 and $125 in labor. Does this sound right? Thanks for your help.

Labor quote is outrageous. Try 1 hour. Don't know what the part costs, and it CAN be cleaned.
I think Scott put together a PDF on cleaning it... supposedly called an idle air control valve on this car, not an ISV. =)

do you know where I can find the PDF on cleaning the valve? Thanks for the info.

You may save $ 100 for beer
Try the link.
I bought a ISV and a starter (for an A80) from these guys and they are fine; the prices are unbeatable.
Buy a case of german beer and replace the ISV yourself. The all over cost would be $185.<ul><li><a href="http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/partsbin/wizard.jsp?partner=partsbin&year=1995&make=AU&mode l=A6-Q-001&category=All&part=Idle+Control+Valve&usemake=A U">http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/partsbin/wizard.jsp?partner=partsbin&yea

Oh, just a second here...Car dies in Park? Turn on the AC, car OK? Doubt it's the IAC.
You could clean the IAC, it won't hurt.
I'll guess you have a vacum leak or a leak around the air intake plenum. My intake plenum was loose and not seated firmly enough to keep air flow from seeping in around it. Car idled very low, died when warm. Turning oon the AC kicks the idle up to 1000 RPM so the engine kept running. Cleaning the IAC (which for me was clean anyway) made no difference).
The pic shows the plenum. When sitting on the car the part is rotated 90 degrees towards you from the picture orientation. Make sense?
Loosen two bolts, pull the air plenum intake forward and retighten and see if things change.
