I've an '88 100 which starts, drives..and then stalls. Five minutes down the road, brake and the engine dies. Try starting it again and the engine turns but doesn't fire. Cue trying to find a friendly face to help push the car to the side of the road. Wait an hour or two...and we're back on our way..until next time. This happens very frequently (particularly in damp weather.
If you have a good idea on what the problem may be, please let me know - it's driving me nuts!
Thanks all.

You need to pull the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code). Could be hall sensor or rpm sensor, either one would cause a running engine to die and not restart.
