the cars performance. I bought a 1995 a6quattro avant with 200k. It seems to have no power below 3k rpm. The gas pedal goes half way down to the floor before any input from the motors powerband is felt. The shifts are quick and not at all slugish but they seem very early and too noticable (little jerky) to me. Is this normal for a 1995 avant quattro? thanks alot guys :-).

you're not an old man. Disco the battery over night (making sure you have the radio security code) and then drive it like you stole it for a day.
Alternatively, your throttle position sensor or throttle cable may be out of adjustment, the mass airflow sensor may need to be cleaned, you may need new spark plugs, etc. I'd start with resetting the ECM.

Im going to search on how to adjust the TPS. As far a driving like I stole it....not with 200k+ on it. Ill check the plugs and Im in the process of changing trans and differential fluids. Im cleaning out the throttle body today and trying to find a nasty exhaust leak. The car sputters like its got a hole in the muffler.

and check that the kickdown switch on the throttle body is activated when you push the gas pedal to the stop on the floor.

Kiss the floor with your foot and she's screaming awayyyy.
Mine has 192k and loves a good 0-120 every once and a while.

the cable seemed adjusted properly....with the pedal on the floor there wasnt any extra play on the cable. Any idea what line is supposed to attached to the box where the cap is ? The TB was filthy.

It's not a bad car, but if you bought it for performance then you bought the wrong car.
Plus, if you're afraid to put your foot down just because the car has a lot of miles, what can you expect? To go faster you need to put your foot down more.
