Default Just doing the brakes, and found me e-brake cable is broken...

On the drivers side rear. How hard/expensive of a fix/replace is that? And not only is it broken right at the ball, the spring loaded pulley is stuck and it wont move an INCH! I couldnt find a write up on how to do this. I have a 97 A6 Avant. Also I will be bleeding the system, any tricks I should know of? Any help would be great, Ive never bleed the brakes before FYI. But I have done tons of rotors/pads etc.
Thanks

Default I know a guy that bleed his 95? A6 brakes w/o a power bleeder and had to buy a master cylinder.

Don't ask me exactly why or how the master cylinder broke. I did mine with a Motive power bleeder. I occasionally depress the pedal about 3/4 of the way during the bleeding, no problems for me.

Default Bleeding the brakes must be done with a pressure bleeder........

Any other method may get air into the ABS circuit.
That would mean big $$$ at the dealer.

Default what should I do now? I bleed all the brakes

Im guessing I'll need to get a pressure bleeder, but how should I go about this? I havent push the pedal. I just unscrewed the pistons in all 4 corners. The brakes where in need of serious cleaning and replacement. All 4 rotors and pads for the backs and the e-brake froze up and I needed to replace those. And will try to tackle the e-brake cable on the drivers side. And where can I get a Motive Bleeder? Thanks guys, I know Im a noob with this

Most good auto stores will have pressure bleeders.
They come with complete instructions.

There is no pedal pushing involved and you can do the job without assistance.

Default How much does a pressure bleeder cost?

I've always just bleed mine without one and have never had any problems.

The bleeder I have cost the equivalent of $10 in this part of the world.
My concern is that if you slip up and get air into the ABS system it has to be bled using a VAG com. If you can't help yourself then it means the dealer will have to do it. It's a lengthy procedure.

The air pressure type is all you need. It works off the spare wheel.
