Limp Home Mode fix (without VAG-COM?)
Following up a recent post about tranny problems (A6 V6 2.6) - have replaced gearbox oil and filter (genuine) as per audipages.com (A8 description, very useful). Still has clunk when engaging gear (like my Cherokee and Volvo) but is now is limp home mode (2nd gear only). Is there a way of resetting this? And would it be wise to do so?
I have ordered VAG-COM cables but won't get the right ones for a week or so....thanks

You're probably still low on oil. You have to follow bentley manual for correct refiling. When trsnny reaches 35-40 Celsius that's when the fluid id suppose to trickle out from the fill hole. Do a search or I think a couple of posts down it was discussed. The best is wait for the VAG cables and read tranny codes.

Re: Limp Home Mode fix (without VAG-COM?)
Thanks, did follow instructions re. refilling (my dealer specified 5.5 litres/9.7 pints) to the letter; I now suspect it was in limp home mode prior to oil change (wife thought it just wouldn't change up) - on further advice I unplugged battery for an hour (to clear ECU memory) and then test drove - no clunks, smooth change through the gears, no leaks. Will re-check level again tomorrow and pull codes when possible.
I guess if there is a persistent problem the car will go back into limp home mode?
Thanks Neil

To elivate these types of problems. I meaure my old fluid, so I have a better idea of how much needs
to be replaced. I do this by pouring the old fluid into empty quart bottles.
Good Luck
