Lowering springs for 97 Wagon

My car looks like a 4x4, and I need to lower it a bit (about 1" - 1.25"). What experience has anyone had with a good set of springs (while keeping the stock struts) that didn't degrade the ride too much? I had eibach springs with bilstein sport shocks in my E320, but that car was a bit more solid than my wagon and the setup I had made the car ride like a dream even on rough road.
My wagon feels good, but I'm afraid to put Bilsteins in it, so I just want to lower it a bit to get rid of the gap. Any advice on brand of springs would be appreciated (H&R, Eibach, etc).

It is very nice on smooth road. On the bumpy roads it becomes nightmare. I live in New York and I really have issue with bumpy roads.
In addition low ground clearance puts a lot of dents on the underbeley.
On top of it my rear break lines were torn apart because the rear suspention was so low - check the FAQ for details.
I think better idea is to leave springs stck and replace shocks.

for pulling out of parking lots and pulling over parking blocks and curbs. Lowering will also require special camber plates for the front end alignment. These cars aren't so sexy looking when the front air dam is pulled off backing off a parking block.

Lowering a C4 Avant is probably the most asked and most unanswered question in this forum.
It's amazing that nobody can give a straight answer as to what springs to use. I've looked high and low, near and far for a company that actually lists the '95-'97 Avant in their sport spring catalog and found one: B+G. H&R and Eibach dont carry ones that fit according to them. I've been told that the early A4 front wheel drive set works, but I'm not willing to find out the hard way that they wont.<ul><li><a href="http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/bg/start?ajr_skey=2449b961cf43e2e6951f745f0e843f3e&am p;year=1997&make=AUDI&model=A6+Avant+Quatt ro">http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/bg/start?ajr_skey=2449b961cf43e2e6951f745f0e843f3e&am p;year=1997&

I think, the rear of the car is lover, then the front. Especially when I have full trunk and couple of people on the rear seat.
