Default Mixed messages- ignition labor

I've bewen searching (and researching) replacing the electrical switch portion of my place-where-the-key-goes-and-turns-thingy. I'm NOT having the electrical problems referred to, but I AM experiencing stiffness, and an I-might break-the-key feeling. First of all are the parts for BOTH these problems the same? What is that part called? Finally- a recent poster referred to 45min labor for him to do it and someone else- a while ago- linked to the recall descriptions that allowed 2 1/2 hours and drilling with a stepped drill for the DEALER to do it... these can't be the same part? can they?
I just want to be able to use MY key and replace the hard turning ignition switch part.

Default Broken ignition switch...

it plugs into the key thingie from the back. It took me about 1 hour, but I had never done it before and at that time there were no good instructions here. there are now. NHTSA lists the '96 as recalled (jan 22, 1996), but you may be manufactured later. Same part. Repair can be done in about 30 minutes, 45 min would be a good guesstimate. No, you don't drill or anything like that...no, you don't have to remove the steering wheel or change the keylock. If it's not sticking, spray some silicone or WD40 into the cylinder lock mechanism, see if that makes it easier to turn. It doesn't sound like the same problem we've all been having around here. but it will be, everybody gets it eventually.

Default Whether you DIY or have it done, get the black part...

there are two identical parts, one black, one white, I understand that both have the same part number, you want the black one, I have been told they are a little stronger and sturdier. Price is the same.
