It could be that you are getting some cavitation because fluid has drained out of the feed tube to the front pump. Have you changed a auto trans filter lately?

Default Yes, changed fluid & filter. Followed instructions and amount out matched amount in.

If the feed tube to the front pump was air bound, would the noise disappear after a short while?

Default MikTip, it doesn't sound like the cats normally do. I went under the car and it sounds like it's

coming from the trans pan. I replaced both my cats in the past couple years.

Did you use the "audi part" from the dealer or an after market one? very important. some aftermarket filters have a little smaller opening for the filter into the pump body. without a tight seal, air gets into the flow.

Maybe the filter inside came loose, and is rattling against the pan?

Default I didn't purchase one directly from the dealer but did order it online from a reliable source.

I don't recall the packaging all that well but it was in a plastic bag with an Audi type number on it. I also replaced the oring. I will give this a shot on Monday. I though the fluid may be low or the filter had loosened sucking air in between so I took it apart a couple days later to check. The bolts were still fastened to the correct torque.

Thanks to the info.

Default I check that right away thinking one of the three bolts dropped out and was in the pan. I checked

an they were still at the correct torque.
