Oil leak A6 '96

I could use some suggestions on this one! I have oil dripping down onto the driver's side cat converter. Initially, I thought it was transmission oil, but it is definitely engines oil. The level is going down noticeably at about a pint every 200 miles, all of a sudden. There is no oil on the driveway, though, and I think it is because it all burns off on the 'cat'. You can smell the burning oil when opening the door after a drive. I can just see the mess on top of the transmission, behind the engine. At this point I can't see more due to all the wiring plugs and throttle body stuff.
Anyone encountered a leak like this?

try loking for oil in the vally beetwen your cyl heads and if there is some you have either bad valy pan gasket or leaky cyl head gasket. Also check for valve cover gaskets or seal beheind cam position sensor.
Good luck

I found not oil leak but evidence of oil condensation on my left engine side due to leak on connection between rubber tube and a pipe just above spark plugs. Just remove plastic cover (four bolts) and look at left engine side. This "leak" went all way down to the transmission.
