Changing oil last weekend I accidentally went beyond the specified 5.3 quarts in my 97A6QA, and added about an extra 1/3rd of a quart for a total of close to 5.7 quarts.
Should I go to the trouble of draining off the excess? The dipstick show the level about 1/8th of an inch above the "do not add" line.
Where does this excess oil go? Does it do any harm?

The only problem that you could have from overfilling would be "frothing", where the crankshaft whips air into the oil. But you'd probably have to add over a quart extra for it ever to be an issue.

of course I had a bit more in there than I should have. I was just lazy and didn't want to deal with it, well now I am paying for it
