Default OP needed on floor jack

What have people bought and tossed aside? I'm considering getting either a Michelin 3 1/2ton or Sears 4ton. My current jack can't get high enough for me to use my 6ton stands. I won't get under the car until I can use these stands (they look like HF). Does anyone use a crossbeam adapter?

Default I like the Sears 2 ton aluminum jack. A block or two of wood is still occasionally required...

6 ton stands are pretty tall, you will probably need a block with any jack unless you get one of those enormous bus jacks.

Default Sears 3 ton here. However, I drive the front end up on 7,500lb rated metal ramps.

That way it's not only stable, but I don't have to lift it.

+1 for ramps. They're a great time saver for oil changes.

Default I use my ramps to get the front end up high enough to put the floor jack under the subframe.

My garage is really narrow and it's a PITA to jack from the side.

Do you need jack stands with ramps?

Default You do if you want the car higher than the ramps are...

The "rhino ramps" I have are only 5" or 6" high. That's (barely) enough to crawl under and do an oil change on the S4 (much lower than the A6) but not much more.

Ah yes, I see your point. I guess I'm thankful for my old school metal ones then!

Default I have the ramps

Just wondered about jacks and cross beam extenders. I use the ramps for the quick and dirty jobs but they don't work when needing the wheels off. I also can't remember what the ramps are rated at as they are the old metal ones. I guess it calls for a trip to Sears.
