Default Power Steering Fluid

I'm confused. In Bentley's, it references the power steering fluid as part number G 002 000. In a previous post, someone said that that was incorrect and that what was needed was Pentosin 11S. I am getting ready to order the fluid and am curious if anyone knows which one I should be using.

Thanks,

Aaron

Default The Pentosin website doesn't help much either. The

website at Germa n Autoparts probably gives the best explanation. Also when you search using the Audi part number G002000 depending on the parts house you may get either Pentosin CHF7.1 or CHF11S

Just buy the CHF11S and you should be safe. Do you really need the low temp? Probably not but you aren't going to save much money with the cheaper stuff.

Default I bought the 11S stuff

Well, I just ordered the Pentosin 11S and should be getting it this week. Thanks for the input. Now I have to figure out a way to flush out the system and see if the new PS fluid helps my steering rack noise issue. I am skeptical, but I figured that spending $15-20 was better than spending $500-1000 for a new rack right away.

Thanks again

Default G 002 000 is Pentosin 11S.....

I think you are referring to my post about this. I was stating that 11S is the fluid you want and NOT 7.1.

Again, G 002 000 is Audi's part number for Pentosin 11S. You got the 11S so you'll be fine!!

Just remember to use mineral oil, not synthetic (I think that's Pentosin CHF 7.1=G 002 000)

Default Why does everyone have this backwards......

The GOO 2000 (G 002 000) is the 11S. The 7.1 fluid has another letter in it (I won't post to avoid the confusion). Again, the G 002 000 IS 11S.

G 002 000 Explained

In 1988 Audi switched FROM the 7.1 TO the 11S. The TWO fluids canNOT be mixed or you risk ruining your rack!!

Audi switched to the 11S in 1988 and are still using the 11S fluid in their current cars.

HTH!!

P.S. G 002 000 is Pentosin 11S

But it IS mineral oil - right? That's what the cap on my PS fluid tank says.

Default Thanks. I can see why it is so confusing.

According to that site, the part number for the Pentosin 11S is referred to as G 002 000 while the part number for the older 7.1 fluid is G 002 000 G. I guess by making the part numbers close, Audi can assure their service departments of plenty of future business for rack repairs and replacements

Thanks again!

Both are mineral oil. Just the 11S is a synthetic mineral oil (isn't that an oxy-moron?).
