I included a link for a poster with the same problem last year.
I pulled the old motor out by removing the 3 mount to frame bolts but I am thinking this will be a challenge to reinstall. The salvage yard removed the engine by using a hoist to rip the left engine mount apart.
Has anyone figure out a better way to get in there?<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/62015.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/62015.phtml</a</li></ul>

I pulled the engine just like you mentioned, by removing the frame bolts. I removed the mount with the engine out and left it at the yard.
Last time I had to deal with this problem was on my 90 Quattro, bought a new mount and mounted to the frame and lowered the engine in place, the nut will go in by hand all the way down. I used one of those ratcheting spanners (don't know the correct name of the tool)to tighten. it still was a PITA.
I plan to to the same on the swap I am working on this week.

When I did mine I had to unbolt the A/C compressor and move it forward out of the way. I think I also took off the oil filter and the oil cooler (keeping the hoses attached).
That 17mm nut is crimped, so at no point will it just spin off. You literally have to fight it the entire way, rotating it about 1/4 turn at a time.
I was ready to scream!
