Default Question about a coolant leak.

I have a leak on my '94 100 and it only leaks when engine heats up. When engine is cool is does not leak. I can see where the leak is coming from but it is the front of the engine, either the water pump or the thermostat. I am thinking it is the therostat because if it is closed it doesn't leak until is opened. Do you think I am correct? I am going to open up the cover an see if I can fix it.

Default

Any way you slice it you'd have to take off the timing belt so time to do it all at once.

Default It might be the t-stat, but your logic is not correct.

The t-stat doesn't seal when it shuts, and it would still have coolant on both sides anyway. More like the heat creates pressure in the system which forces fluid out the leak.

Default Does it leak on the driver or passenger side from the cranshaft puley?

I think it is pump, because it has gusket and the pump pulley is under preasure from the timing belt.

Thermstat has round rubber gusket and it hard to imagine to make her leak.

As to the fast, that it leaks only when engine hot - it might not be related. It leaks after engine is running for some time. When you leave engine to cool, the coolant will drip for some time. When you start a cold engine, it will take some time for coolant to find it way to the bottom of the motor.

Default Update- I found the leak!

I took off the serpitine belt(I think thats what it is called or accesory belt) and I got a better look at the water pump. It is leaking out of it looks like a freeze plug or cap, it is a seeping leak. I think I have heard of this happening before. I will do a search. Thanks guys! --Dirtyhands. p.s.-Maybe some glue will seal up the leak?
