Re-torque Head bolts - is it possible to break the bolts?

Ok, so I know this guy with a 94 100s. He has put dye in his oil system and found that his head-gaskets are leaking - no idea if they were ever changed and he has about 135k mi on the car. He is wondering if anyone has ever re-torqued the head bolts per the audi tech bulliten, and if it is possible to snap a head bolt. (I'm sure it's possible to snap one, but if I know him he'd be real careful about not over-torquing). If you're not familiar with the tech article, I think it states that you check the head bolts, and if udner 40lbs/sq ft, then you retorque (to what I don't know off hand)...
Any response?

If they gave out the correct 'true' torque figure for them then people would not need to buy ned bolts any more. My guess is that they will end up at about 80ft/lbs.
By the way, I guess you meant 40ft/lbs, not lbs/sq ft ?
