Tried to remove the rear control arm/tie rod assembly today. After fighting with the ball joint for two hours, I feel I am stuck here. It was in such a congested area so the Y shape for will not work at all. Then I switch to a Pitman Arm Puller. Unfortunately, the jaw has such a big opening that it cannot grab much meat. As soon as I crank the pushing pin tighter, it slips off. Now, I am just stuck here trying to figure out what I can do. The solution I am thinking of is cut two flat surfaces on the threaded end so I can grab it and try to turn it. If I can turn it, chance is, I can take it off. The second idea is to find some different type of removal tool like this:

I am wondering if you guys have any trick that can make this job easier?
Any input is greatly appreciated

Try heating the area around the taper with a torch. This should expand the metal and help release the taper. Then some whacks on the threaded end should pop it out. You can also try an air hammer if you have the means. If you need to save the joint, thread the bold back on three or four turns to help save the threads.
