Removing sway bar on 2.8 V6
This coming weekend I plan on replacing the bushes at the ends of the sway bar i.e. sway bar to control arm bushes. Can this be done easily without removing / lowering the subframe and loosening the strut ball joint? All other suspension bushes were replaced by the previous owner.
I have had a look at the Audi factory workshop manual and it says that the subframe needs to be removed before the sway bar can be taken off for the 6-cylinder engine. It also says that the vehicle must be standing on its wheels when removing / installing the sway bar (using rebound and bump procedure).
Doing a search on this forum I came across the vice grips, chain and ratchet winch tick to pull the ends of the sway bar together. Will this help me get the sway bar out on the 2.8 V6 without removing / loosening any other suspension components?
With the car jacked up on the usual jacking points and the front wheels off the ground, I suspect the sway bar to be under tension and difficult to remove or install safely. What is the best way to do this using only trolley jacks / jack stands or a ramp?
Any other important aspects that I need to be aware of?
