Default Seat track width? Possible seat swap

So, the leather on both of my front seats is substantially ripped, particularly the drivers.

I have been looking into swapping out the seats, but I'm wondering if I am limited to simply the C4 bodystyle. Would I be able to mount a different type of seat? I'm looking for sport seats, or if i could, even a seat from a newer model.

Does the track width vary on the newer years? Would it be possible to put a different seat from say a 2000 A6 into my C4?

Default I can tell you that B5 seats will not fit without modification. They're close, but you need to weld

some more length into one/both of the mounts for the rear sliders.
