Default I had a feeling you were misinterpreting, it was a show on recouping

the cost difference of the gas vs hybrid vehicles. The point was don't pay over thousands over sticker on a Prius and don't even bother with most of the bigger hybrid vehicles. The dealers are charging thousands over sticker because of the recent demand.

They were using $4 pg as a measurement since that is the current average and not going down.

Default The change has already begun my friend.

GM and Ford have already announced plant closings where pickups and SUVs are made as well as hybrid and smaller cars within the next 2 years. If they can see the writing on the wall then the writing is very big indeed.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2008-06-03-gm-changes_N.htm

Default

$34k for a 2008 Denali still seems too much.

Default aparently average New Yorker consumes 1/3 of energy comparing to average American

so as New Yorker I used to take subway or walk. Bites and roller blades are good ways of transportation as well. Only problem - you get a bit sweaty. On other side you will save on the heart hospital bills.

Default It wasn't just that, it was the speed of the increase and unknown future that did it.

Perceptual fear always works. It changes minds faster like no other cognition.

Default there's a cool writeup online somewhere about a guy with an electric converted mk1 rabbit

he built a diesel powered pusher trailer for use on longer trips. the conversion was done some time in the 80s, he got the car in operable shape and incrementally upgraded. cool read.

Default There's a guy here locally who's converted a Rabbit P/u and it's very clean

I think the Rabbits all make for good conversions and there must be a kit being produced because if you look online you'll find quite a few of them.

The guy with the truck locally built it all himself, including the bellhousing adaptor to mate the electric motor to the clutch/flywheel, and 5sp trans.

Years ago, I met a guy at a big VW wrecking yard/shop just outside of Vegas who'd converted a Mk1 Scirocco to a diesel. He bragged that it got 80mpg.
