Another problem area are the speakers. The car has a "Bose" system. the rear door speakers have blown out three time, the first 2 times they were replaced under warranty. Now not working correctly again and I was quoted $900 per door to replace. the driver side rear door is barely audible and the passenger side rear hums. I have the radio adjusted so just the front speaker are playing. I've been told that these speakers have to be replaced, there is no fix. A auto shop tech told me that there are in line fuses on each speaker and sometimes they go or a wire is grounded to the body somewhere. How do you get these out, remove the door panels or do the grille pop off. thanks Again

i am not sure about the back doors, but if they are bose, like the front ones in my 92 100 cs, there is a long (almost as long as the door) plastic case, which houses the amp and other stuff. the speaker itself could come out from behind the grill, but more than likely, it's the amp that has a problem. you have to take the door panel off.

You should be able to replace the Bose speaker with just about any efficent aftermarket speaker and have better sound and a more durable speaker, while still using the Bose set up.
I removed the entire Bose "sound chamber" and installed good speakers in the openings.
...and yes, you take the door panels off to do this.
