yesterday my speedo (and ODO) stopped working. Everything else on the console still works.
My question for the panel is, where is the speed sensor? I'm hoping that there is something wrong with the connector/cable.

On the passenger side if I remember correctly.
Check if other devices in the car are getting a valid speed signal. The speedometer receives the signal from the speed sensor and sends it out to everywhere else. If your cruise control works, or if your diff lock correctly disengages at ~ 25 kph, it is probably an issue with the cluster itself.

If the speedo & odo stopped working at the same time, it's probably one of two things: a) check the condition of the three wires running from the firewall down to the sensor/switch (on my '92, that's driver's side on top of the bell housing) or b) the sensor/switch itself has failed. I had similar problem - everything was working just fine except the speedo & odo; my three wires were mouse-chewed and needed to be spliced.
