My dad has a 96 A6q that I was borrowing. It's never had a issue starting till yesterday. It look several lenghty periods of holding they key in the start position. I got it running really rough after about 1/2 hour. So ok, it's running but the radiator fan is on now and I can't shut it off. I even pulled the relay (not the fuse) to see it it was electrical. I'm stumped! It's 20 degrees and the car's just started so I know the fan shouldn't be on. Any thoughts? Thanks much.

even with it 20F outside, if the car was parked in a garage, the temp sensor may be warm enough to turn on the a/c, which turns on the fan. If it's not, it is probably a bad temp sensor on the radiator. There should be a fuse i think for the radiator fan. HTH.
