Default Sunday night fun - key broke off

So I go out to get some groceries tonight, come back to the car, reach to pull out my keys and grab the key fob - looking down I see 1/2 a key! Somehow it broke off, completely twisted off with rough edges, I didn't know where - the ignition or in the door... had to call a cab to go home, get my spare key (just gotta find a place for it ON the car!), cab back to the grocery store parking lot... where luckily, the ignition was clear of the missing key fragment, and I drove home $40 poorer.

Default I think in the door, but it was too late at night to check

I was just too happy that the ignition was clear!

Default Easy fix

This happen to my BMW M5--just take it to a locksmith (not Wal-mart) and they have this little drill bit type tool that will back out the broken part of the key. It cost me $5.
