I've tentatively decided to put a very thin layer of rtv on the water pump gasket. Does anyone feel like arguing about that? I'd like to hear both sides.

yes the torque is 7ft lbs - I put a layer of silver silicone on both sides of my paper pump gasket - worked fine - I had a tough time with the thermo ring staying in place as I smashed it into place - you will want to gorilla glue the housing and ring in place and then tighten the two bolts rather than trying to hold the ring flush - I did mine 4 times before I finally asked a mechanic - had 5 of em tell me that's how you do it.
