Here's a cool webpage on Torsen that I hadn't seen before.
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential8.htm
And it explains why BMW likes to tout their design as better. I saw a demonstration of a BMW vs. Audi going up a ramp with rollers, strategically placed so one wheel would be without any grip whatsoever. BMW could go up the ramp, Audi couldn't. And now we know why. It's a limitation with the bias ratio.

everybody I know agrees, that quattro saves your @ss in bad weather. And all agree, that BMW sucks in bad weather. Many people own both Audi and BMW. In snow and rain they drive Audi. I personally passed BMW, stuck in snow on the trip to Vermont.
So why some stupid demo with artificial circumstances can convince you, that BMW has better diff. Yes Audi transfers 60% of the torque while some SUVs transfer up to 100%. So what? The quattro was designed for racing not for heavy duty off-road.
Another point Torsen sits between front and rear. The rear axel has low speed EDL (starting at 95?). So on low speeds your rear wheels would do the trick.
And of course BMW is known for screaming, that qattro is BS ... until they have to race again Audis. On race track BMW says, that qattro is "unfair advantage" and make judges penalize Audi by putting extra weight in their race cars.

here is more info on quattro.
