Default Tranny issues

My Audi recently refused shifting into 3rd. On a trip after that it worked fine. Error Code P0733 came up. Something about the 3rd gear solenoid I think. Is there any other options besides replacing the tranny?

Maybe an expert will chime in, but did you check your fluid level? Did you try changing the fluid/filter?

IIRC if it's a bad solenoid, those can be replaced by taking off the transmission fluid pan, could also be an electrical problem (broken/loose/corroded wire) or a TCU problem. I'd take it to a transmission shop for an estimate before I considered replacing the tranny.

Update -

I pulled out the TCU, everything 'looked' fine on it. connections were in tight, unit looked good, plugged it back in.

Changed the tranny filter and fluid (not a flush). Cleaned out the pan (very little metal in it). Put it all back together, and reset the light.

So far its been over 3,000 miles without any issues!

Hope this helps others.
