Default Transmission additives?

My transmission on my 94 Quattro 125K has been whining since I got it above like 15-20mph.

Has anybody ever used any of those transmission additives they make? Do they work or just make it worse?

What about that engine oil gunk remover stuff you put in the oil, let it idle for 5 minutes, then change the oil? Does it really get all kinds of gunk out? Is it damaging?

Thanks!

Default Is the front diff at the correct level?

Lotsa talk about the ATF here, but none about the gear oil.

If your car is FWD, your trans has an automatic part that takes Audi ATF, and a differential half that takes gear oil.

If your car is quattro, your trans has an automatic part that takes Audi ATF, a front differential that takes gear oil, a center differential that takes gear oil, and a rear diff that takes gear oil.

A whine is more likely to be produced by a low diff than a low ATF level.

Default Hmmmm. Never check my diff(s) fluid level...

Please tell me I don't need VAG-COM for this, too? Man, I really need to get a manual for this thing...

Just had the fluid changed in the center and rear differentials, didn't affect the whine.

Default I would use a tablespoon of sugar.

I am sure any other additive will provide similar advantages.

In other words additives budget is mostly consist of advertisment money. On the other side Mobil or Pentosin spends millions on research.

Default Did you ever change the fluid and filter?

ZF recommends changing both every 40K
