Help!

I just spoke with my dealer. Their service department says no transmission fluid change on a 1996 A6Q. I know everyone on this site says to do it at 45K. Please advise. Also he said that late 1996 and 1997 Quattros had a sythetic transmission fluid in them. Early 1996 and 1995's did not. Please advise if this is true and should a change be done from my 1996 with the 1997 synthetic fluid? How do I verify if mine has the synthetic fluid or not? Pull the plug?

Must be a TSB or something on it?

A Technical Service Bulletin issued June 7, 1996 (96-02) shows a change in fluid specifications, as follows:

Differential: Gear oil SAE 75W90 (Synthetic)
Part No. G 052 145 A2 (1.0 liter)

Planetary Gearbox - ATF
Part No. G 052 162 A2 (1.0 liter)

This synthetic oil should replace the mineral-based oil previously used.

Rear final drive (Quattro models) uses SAE 90 API GL-5 gear oil as before.

How do you find out what fluid you have?? It doesn't matter, you should replace the fluid with the synthetic (as per TSB).

Let the dealer change the fluid. The tranny fluid in these cars is <b>NOT</b> something that you can do yourself. Take it into the dealer and let them deal with it.
