Default understanding the codes....

Hi- This relates to my previous posting of a rough idle with my 97 A6 Quattro... I had a shop pull the codes and the following popped up:
16538, PO154-02/16539, PO155-02/16689, PO305

Anyone know what these mean?

Thanks!

Default Re:

well, it looks like you have a bad O2 sensor,or the heater circuit for the sensor has a problem, and #5 cylinder has been mis-firing. As far as the mis-fire, either you ran the car almost out of gas, or you might have a bad injector, loose plug wire, or vacuum leak.

Default Some answers (similar to Antony's Avanti reply)...

The P codes are std SAE codes, whereas the number codes are VAG codes. For DTC 16538/P0154, it means "O2 Sensor Circuit, Bank2, Sensor1, No activity detected". For DTC 16539/P0155, its "O2 Sensor Heater Circuit, Bank2, Sensor1 Malfunction". For DTC 16689/P0305, its meadns "Cylnder5 Misfire Detected" (probably due to the other DTCs).

Thanks to everyone for the info! I'm curious to where that sensor is located, there are 4 total I believe. If I replace it will the check light go off automatically or do I have to have it done by computer reset?

Thanks again!
