Default is it unusual for the coolant sensor to go?

my coolant light is flashing in my car, but the car isn't over heating and i looked at the resevoir and it wasn't anywhere near the empty line, but i filled it anyways. could it just be the sensor? or is it the thermostat maybe? thanks,
Andrew

Sounds like a bad sensor since you're not over-heating.

It is the sensor; $105 from the dealer, 10 minutes to install, u need 11/8" deep socket+ 1' drive.
