I'm looking at a 96 A6 quattro wagon w 60K- 1 owner,dealer serviced. Has not had belt/water pump done & needs brakes but these will be negotiated with dealer. My concern is with trans & would like info as to which 3rd party warranties are solid with respect to covering these cars. It's my understanding that trans are not rebuildable but replaceable to the tune of $7000. Say it aint so.

There's a Phoenix-based company listing on eBay that sells rebuilt trans for Audi, VW, MB, BMW...
The Buy Now price for a rebuilt Audi A6 trans was at $1,995 plus another $110 for shipping. So, $2.0K - $2.5K should be right on the mark.
