Default Water Temp Gauge Sporatic

Gents..thoughts on a sometime seemingly flaky temp gauge on my 92 S4? It seems to take a pretty long time to come up to temp. In particular on very cool days like today where after driving for like 15 min it barely moves.

Default Any other symptoms? Just stays cool and takes a while to warm up? I'm betting...

its the thermostat not closing. That may also indicate some "particles" in the coolant that are interfering with the stat closing.
