Default weird problem with the remote flip key fob

Got the fob from ebay, got a new mechanical key portion from Audi, programmed the key. Worked. But.... remote functions only work when I'm 2-3 feet away from the car. If I walk away 10 feet, it doesn't work. Has anyone had this problem? It's a 97, so it should be RF and work from longer distances.

Default funny you mentioned it

The wireless fob I got from ebay had dead batteries. The batteries are CR1620, I went to walgreens and the closest they had was CR1616. They are the same voltage, but a little thinner. I bent the clips inside the key to get sure contact.

I'll buy two CR1620's at Batteries Plus tomorrow, and see if that fixes the problem.

Default Did the new batteries fix this problem??? more... URL for the tech article

I was told that the Key FOB are a battery hog and you can never really get them to work for a distance of more than 8-10 feet??? I was told that they really suck on functionality too.... That was the reason why I went in for an aftermarket thing for just $75 with tow remotes included... and now have a distance of 80-100 feet...

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec67.shtml</a

Default Best of both worlds... Swap the electronics from the aftermarket remote...

into the switchblade. Not easy, but would be great!

Default Somewhat... but do go to directed .com and search for the installation...

guide for the Valet 711t and you can see all the details there... but buy only from Radios and more as they are the cheapest... just checked the Valet Key FOB comes with a 12V battery.... WOW that should last long and will have an excellent range...
