Default What no Tail Light

Hi everyone in AudiWorld. I am a proud owner of a 1996 Audi 2.6SE rhd in the UK.

In the UK there is no legal requirement for cars to have a 3rd high level brake light.

I installed a Bosch tail stop light last weekend and made an electrical connection to the RH brake light (using the electrial spades in the bulb cluster). This works great and I now have a tail light.

I have one prolem. The A6 minicheck is complaining that there is an open circuit and is displaying the brake light symbol.

Can anyone advise me on what electrical connections are required ?

Did you wire the third light in series or parallel ?

Default Have the exact same problem

Although not an A6 I have the same problem in that I fitted a third brake light to my UK Coupe via the right light cluster tap and my minicheck registers a blown brake bulb.
Trouble is I've posted this problem and searched the archives all to no avail!
The solution must be a small electrical tweek but no info has surfaced.
I wonder how cars with a 3rd brake light fitted as standard have them wired?

Default This might be worth a try...

Connect the third light from the Left Hand cluster. I connected a trailer brake light wire to the RH cluster and got the "alarm". Changed to the LH side and it went away.
I have not even a small clue why this was so, except for the possibility that the alarm may indicate a low voltage (rather than no voltage) condition. The LH side may be in a better place in the circuit relative to the voltage checkpoint.
I'm sure there could be other reasons.

From recollection of how the bulb cluster circuit board appears I believe it is parallel, but I could be wrong.

I have used the spade connections at the bottom of the RH bulb cluster.

Got me stumped. If it was in series the current would be low so I guess "open circuit" .

Apologies for my ignorance but can you please elaborate on what and how the relay can be installed.

Many Thanks

Default Can someone help him here?

the easiest solution is to go to a wireman/mechanic and ask him to install for you. I did not installed it myself, so can't help you here but feel free to ask someone in this board for assistance.
