Seems like a waste of gas, I haven't driven my car in 8 months and it seemed a little high, just checkin, thanks

That's sort of a GM hallmark and what gives the cars such great gas mileage and longevity. My Suburban is the same and it'll get 18mpg on the highway.

VW uses some real tall final drives for lower and quieter R's on the freeway, and better gas mileage......probably because VW's market is cheap-a$$es looking for economy. Audi caters more to the performance end of things.
Our '86 Jetta with tall 5 speed ran at about 900rpm less than our '87 4000S (non quattro). Basically the same exact cars size, engine and weight-wise, but the Jetta was a joy on the freeway and got 37mpg at speed. The 4000 was miserable on the freeway, and got in the low 30's. Even the VW Fox, which had the same transmission as the 4000, had a much taller 5th.
We've got 205/60-15's on the Avant rather than the stock 195's just to bring down the R's a hundred or so.
