I want to hear for all of you guys that live in the snow belt that have A6Q what your experience is with non-studded snow tires i.e Blizzaks, Cooper Weather master XGR's etc. NOT all seasons.
I'd Cooper XGR's on my preivous car a -97 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, they performed excellent in snow and ice here in Montana. And I drive 56 miles everyday roundtrip to work, so I'm looking for something that really works.

I have the 205/55HR-16 Dunlop "Winter Sport M2"s on a 1997 A6qw for the last winter. These were great in the snow and in the dry. I do quite a bit of highway driving so I wanted something that was not mushy on dry highways. I did not have the opportunity to drive on the ice. On the snow I had a very hard time trying to make them break loose. On the other hand the standard Goodyear RSA are horrible in the slush and very easy to break loose on the snow/ice.
My father's Benz has Blizzak "MZ01"s, which are great for the snow and ice, but they do not drive well on the dry. Which is OK for his commute, no highway driving, but more hills.

My car was dreadful last year with the Goodyear GSA's. Felt like I was constantly sliding. However, I just bought some Dunlop SP Sport A2's and I might just wait and see. They are supposed to be spectacular in Snow/Ice for an all-season tire. Now, if I could just figure out what to do with that other set of wheels I bought....

I haven't bought them yet but was looking at doing so this year!!
Depending on the amount of snow you get I bet the Hakka 1's (non-studded) would work best. Another option is the NRW's (all-season plus) if you tend to drive on dry roads more than snow covered roads.
Nokian has a nice tire comparo (against other brands) on they're site too.
As you can see I've been doing some research :-) HTH!!<ul><li><a href="http://www.nokiantires.com/indexen.html">Nokian</a></li></ul>

Here in Minnesota I use Cooper Cobra 205 60 15 all year round with no problems. Both of mine are only FWD but had no problem last year with over 75 inches of snow with either car.
Just get a set of Cobras and you will be great with your quattro.

Thanks for sharing all your experience folks, Yes! I know from when I lived in Norway, Nokian and Haakapeliita was good tires though the peliita's always have been noisy...they always make sure you get where you need to. Keep'em inputs comming. Snow is hopefully still 6-8 weeks away here in Montana
