What's this Radio Questions

Three items have come up with the radio on my '96 A6.
First, though the GALA function is turned on and volume and sensitivity are set, I get no indication of db change with road speed. That is if the unit is turned on with the "2" button pushed, The display continues with 0db as I drive.
The other two questions are "what's this
.
IF the Mode button is depressed while the radio is turned on, the display reads "CONNECT". Does anyone know what this function is for? Diag. or something?
Again, If the "3" button is depressed when the radio is turned on, a 6 didget alpha numeric value is displayed. My unit defaults to "4861.6M" and there are three other options selectable by the up and down arrows. I could not tell what this display is for. If I selected one of the optional values, and then turned the radio off, the default value was restored on power up (with "3" botton held).
Any ideas on these subjects?
