I replaced mine just more than a year ago,and when the fuel is low its making a buzzing noise.

But I've only driven 4 different Audi/VW for a total of about ~50k miles over about 4 years. <b>All</b> miles have been over the 100k mark, and 5k above the 200k mark. They were all on their first fuel pump. So, in conclusion, they CAN last a long long time.

If it's buzzing, you can either replace it, live with it, or wait till it craps out. I would wait til it craps out. A little buzzing never hurt anyone (unless it was the buzzing of a bee just before it stings you).

Only fuel pumps I have seen fail did so because the drivers got too low on gas which lubes the pump.
