You need a machine shop press to press it out and the new one in

You can R&R the bearing housing, but you definetly "need" a press! BTDT! ;O)

Default Is this a kit? special tool?

It talks about "with bolts supplied", "also bolt and thrust washe". It seems this is being done on the car, which means no strut removal or taking to machine shop.

Are these instructions from a kit of some sort? Where do you get it? Or are they standard bolts, washers, etc?

Default Re: Its a special tool.

Designed to R&R the bearing "on-car".

Problem is, most wheel bearings have been in a while, and require much more force, than the special tool can deliver! Plus you need other large tools just to operate the special tool! That 3/8 drive ratchet pictured, isnt gonna cut it. I know, I've used the special tool, and you do 4 bearings, your physically worn out! Because you provide the force needed buy turning the tool, to press out the bearing! ;O)

I've since purchased 2 hydraulic press's! 1-10 Ton & 1-20 Ton. The Hydraulic press's make wheel bearing R&R much easier!

The instructions are what come with the tool. I post them to give folks an idea of whats involved to R&R wheel bearings. Newer Audi's have the bearing housing "bolted" to the upper strut. Un-bolt bearing housing, find a shop who can press the bearings, and you'll save yourself some time & cash! ;O)

Default re: special tool

i'll probably have the job done, but just in case i decide to try it, where do you buy the tool? is it expensive? i have 1/2 and 3/4 rachets, plus air wrenches and a long pipes for leverage.
