Default When (if ever) did Audi put in clutch a lockout switch?

Hi. I have owned my a6 since 94. Now all of a sudden, the inspection station decides that my car needs, and was built with a clutch safety switch. He insists that it is there, and it is defective - right now you can (and always have been able to) start the car with it in gear.

I tell him he is full of doggy doo. He tells me to get it in writing from the dealer, and then he will give me a sticker.

Anyway, before I call the dealer, is my auto supposed to have one? When did Audi start putting them in? I have a 95A6Q 5spd.

Thanks

Default My 95A6Q 5 spd doesn't have one either. No problems starting it with a gear selected.

The only switch on the clutch that I am aware of is for the cruise control.

Default I doubt that the C4 manual tranny had one. The shift interlock & the start safety switch...

(to prevent starting in a gear) is on the automatics, but as everyone knows, you can disengaged the engine from the tranny by pushing on the clutch pedal. So the driver WILL always know if it is gear or neutral when he/she attempts to start. Wolfman_dc's response should support your claim. If need something in writing, first check your owner's manual re: starting the car for something like "Clutch must be depressed in order to start the car."
