Default I also have one in the cluster but.....The one next to the shift lever also illuminates.

The small illumininated item on the left is the sport button which the early models had.

Default Re: My PRND341 display is an LED in the instrument cluster...

Mines got a cigar lighter in the rear console vent panel with three wires brown, blue/red and a blue/grey. no other wiring in that area though. Only other wiring i can think of that has a reason to be there is for the hand or parking brake warning, unless what you are seeing was for some previous aftermarket ICE or alarm system... does it look original Audi loom?

Default Great...more burned out bulbs to replace! Guess I'd better start digging in.

By the way, thanks for taking the time to host and then post all these photos. I know that's a pain, but it sure helps to see what you're talking about.

Default My owner's manual shows a similar option

Although I just have a blanking plate there, the owner's manual shows the options of having a heated seat switch for the left and right rear passenger seats, and a cigarette lighter in the middle.

When I removed the blanking plate there is the "frame work" to fit the seat heat switches and the cigarette lighter...but mine didn't come so equipped.

Yes, the wires and harness look factory. Maybe the bundle of wires in the cut harness are for the seat heaters and the the other 2 would have fed the cigarette lighter for power and an illuminated ring around the opening?

I need to chase down a workshop manual, either on disk or in book(s) form!

Funny thing - a lot of owners dont believe there are lights in the shift housing.
I discovered mine purely by accident while fixing the shiftlock.

Default Shifter now lights up...yippie!

Hey, thanks again Fair Cape! Successfully installed the little bulb and while down there discovered the passenger footwell light that's supposed to fit up under the dash was just hanging down, jambed into the carpet seam and missing the bulb.

I have a feeling there are plenty more little land mines like this left behind by the previous mechanics.

Default Wires for the car phone?

Okay, further examination....

The harnes that has the single blue and the single brown wire actually has a woven/braided shield around the wires, like TV cable coax, or an antenna coax.

The second harness that contains maybe 6 wires, has 2 light blue wires that have jacketing that's a shiny almost plastic or mylar like material.

I see that there was an option to have a car phone fitted in the bottom of the driver's seat armrest. I wonder if these were the harnesses for the phone....and if you didn't get it installed they'd cut the plug off the end, pull it out of the armrest and shove it back down into the center console?
