Default Xpost from the C5 forum: wheel offsets for C4 100 and C5 A6

Howdy. I have some OEM wineglass 16x7" rims (from a newer model) on my 1992 100 Avant fronttrac. They have an offset of 45mm on them. Is this a correct offset for a 1998 and up A6?

I have done some thread searching here in Audiworld and have seen many answers, and many valuse stated for offset for various models, so I am curious what the definitive one is.

I am looking at getting a 1998-2002 A6 Avant 2.5 TDi in the next year, so I want to know if any or all of my current wheels will fit this car properly. I have several sets of rims now (15x6" steelies with 45mm offset, 16x7 45mm wineglass and 17x8 ET38 which tramline like a bitch).

Thanks!

Default There is not clear answer to that question, but basically...

...yes, the wineglass wheels came stock on the first few years of the C5 with the 2.8 engine. Later years and different width wheels will have differing offsets.

Default Thanks, good to know!

I have seen wineglasses on both A4s and A6s. They are very popular fitments over here in Germany. When I bought mine, I got them off of Ebay by specifically looking for a 16x7 ET45, because the steelies that came with my car were ET45, so if I kept the offset the same it would cut out the tramlining that my 17x8 ET38s have. Strut cars like my C4 are much more sensitive to that than 4-link cars like my 99.5 A4 that I used to have, in my experience.

I was not sure if that style was made in different offsets, like 45 for the A4, 35 for the A6 or whatever. I just don't know.

The nice thing is that the Wineglasses clear my 312mm A8 big brake kit using the stock calipers and TT brackets. Way cool. I plan on moving this kit over to my newer A6 when I get it. The trouble is with my 15" steelies I have to go back to the smaller brakes for winter. So I was thinking of getting 16" snow tires put on the wineglasses, and I would be set for the next car. No swapping of brakes to change tires.

So it sounds like I cna use the 16s on my upcoming car, so I might just go get 16" snows in preparation for the new car, which will come this spring or summer, I hope. I get several years out of winters (4 winters from a set of Pirelli P210 Winter Assymetricos) so I am looking at the investment.

Maybe I think too much... ;-)
