Don't mod them! Then they're realiable. I'd like to see any audi hit 280k (including mine), where you haven't replaced 75% of the wear items and spent over 1/2 the (new) price of the car. I enjoy my coupe quite a bit but trying to get any parts for them is a chore, and then it'll cost ya. Most eclipse's weren't designed to push beyond 300hp. Since that what most ricers do, they encounter problems. There's a difference in making a car go fast, and making it reliably fast. Most folks aren't will to spend the extra time/money for the latter; hence the problems.

how many early 90's eclipses do you see? i'm not talking about the new ones. no turbo, no awd. that's why mitsu lost me as a customer.

There are many 80/90/CQ's with 250-310k, all with original clutches, bushings, and such. Brake parts, strut inserts/upper mounts, and fluids are all exempt from your "wear item" catagory. None of those are terribly expensive.

Default I used to work for an engine remanufacturer, number one replacement engine we sold was...

...early 90's Mitsi 4cyl and V6. Valve seats were bad straight from the factory. Sold quite a bit of tranny's as well.
