Default $#!^! I lost the key to my '84 quick help please!

I need to move this car to where I am parting it out. Can anyone tell me anything about how to get it started and get around the steering lock with no key??

Default Unlock the steering? Call a locksmith maybe.....

IIRC there is a way to start the car without the key (ask Katman), but the wheel lock is a pin which runs through the column - I guess if you drilled out the security bolts holding the key assembly to the steering column you may be able to remove the pin from the column.....but you might also lose the ability to steer in the process. In the case of the 4k we just stripped, we put the wheels on metal skates (you can find at JCWitless, etc.) and pushed the car around as needed.
Cheers!

Default i've never done it on these cars, but on VW's you can just drill a hole and pop the cylinder out..

Default Thats what I did! Well...i used big channel locks to beat a small flat head in haha

Then...here is the craft part...after I drove the screw driver in and got the tumbler all loose and sloppy...I stuck one of my other audi keys in there...and with some jiggling...success! I was able to start the car but not unlock the steering column...that took some muscle! haha. Wow what a day! Thanks for all of the suggestions guys.

Default anybody close with an older vw/audi key?

i used to jiggle my (well used) 86 audi 4000s key to unlock my other 4k, my bros 5k, my dads 4k and on occasion would be able to start their cars but key was not all the way in lock cyl and sometimes too 15 min or so. you could always take a lock cyl off the pass side door and have a key made for around $75 at local locksmith. (made copies from then on) good luck with gettin her moved.

Default The tumblers in my toyotas are so worn that the same key works in three ignitions

It won't work the doorlocks or trunks though

Default that's the easiest way to steal a motorcycle. flathead screwdriver hit with a hammer in the ignition

and they crank right off. takes the fork lock off too.

so how do i know? i used to flip alot of motorcycles, alot. i'd buy some from insurance auctions. many had the ignition broke to steal the bike. an easy $80 fix and i'd clean up on the bike. if it was a theft recovery, they did not get a marked title.

my best deal, i bought a yamaha fj 1100 that was about 8 months old. i got it for $250 or so. put an $80 ignition in it and replaced a turn signal for $120. then cleaned it up all nice and purdy. i sold it in 2 days for just shy of $4k. i think i came out ok.
