10w40, 10w50, or 15w40 for winter with lows of 25 degrees?

Time for the first oil change since I got my 87.5 CGT. From reading the archives, it seems like it is very important that I use a real Bosch or Audi oil filer (with the little spring thing) and use the right weight oil to both protect the engine and provide proper pumping up of the now noisy lifters (I have no idea what weight is in it now, the filter is a Jiffeylube!). Anyway, my average lows in SE Virginia during the coldest part of the winter will be around 27 degrees. So, based on this, I am considering using either 10w40, 10w50 or 15w40. What are your thoughts on this? The car has just over 112,000 miles. Also, should I change her over to synthetic?

Go synthetic and when it is that cold use a lighter weight...that is what I am using for WAshington state winter and it seems to be fine...use the heavy stuff in the summer though. or you can use a half heavy half thin. But go full Mobil 1 either way.
