Start tuning them; once you open up the exhaust and cam the 4v, the torque curve goes to an almost unuseable spot in the rev range. At least, it does in the VW 16v. I've never messed with a 7A.

Light, geared well, they handle great(especially with upgraded suspension), and they're pretty easy to pull power from, since they're detuned so much at the factory. Fun stuff.

correct. I talked to a person who has built a whole lot of engines, and he assured me that with a proper cam profile (and associated head work) you do not have to shift the curve upwards, and actually fatten the curves up a bit. Your peak won't be as high, but the area under the curve will be larger. That translates to better acceleration and a more flexible engine.

The european intake cam, and the Schrick(and its equivalents) set. Granted, you could have them custom made and such, but that's even more $$$. What you're talking about could be accomplished by degreeing the cam, though. Regardless, I'm a cheap bastage, so I'll stick with the 8v.

anyone else interested in restoring a 1978 Audi Fox just like this one? We have one to sell that has many new parts already installed. Dual sun roof and much more. Husband got sick and couldn't do the work on it anymore. When it was running it purred and talked about excellent gas mileage!
